About Bayan Haddad

I have an academic background within the fields of literature and cultural studies, focusing particularly on Palestinian literature and representations of women in fiction. My research interests in the literary studies field are in areas that include uses of literature, its contribution to language acquisition and identity formation as well as its role(s) in resistance as a form of expression. My volunteering and professional experience in the NGO sector has made me familiar with International Human Rights Law and Humanitarian Law, particularly in the case of Palestine. I can undertake research through a collection of both qualitative and quantitative data to analyze the implications of policies (or lack thereof) from a human rights perspective and present them in reports in English and/or Arabic. Being head of the cultural committee of the Palestinian British Friendship Association means that I am constantly engaged with the cultural scene in Palestine and building bridges between Palestinian students and their peers in the UK. This role is further solidified through my being a HESPAL scholar. Often described as flexible and sociable, I try to couple my interpersonal skills with my professional capacity to improve my teaching and research skills.
