About Beate Planche

Dr. Beate Planche I have been teaching in Western's on-line doctoral program in educational leadership since 2015. Now with a standing part-time appointment, I continue to teach on a part-time basis and am presently fulfilling an Acting Field Coordinator contract for the program as well. Former Superintendent of Curriculum and Instructional Services for the York Region District School Board, with over 30 years of experience as a teacher and administrator. Having worked as a teacher and administrator in both private and public schools, I have a varied background and experience in both elementary and secondary education. Education includes a Bachelor’s degree from Concordia University in Montreal and a M.Ed in Special Education and a Ed.D in Educational Administration from the Ontario Studies in Education, University of Toronto as well as Principal and Superintendent qualifications. Research interests have included teacher leadership,which is supported by administrator leadership, formative assessment and inquiry as drivers to engage students in deeper ways, as well as the complexities of collaboration in school improvement processes. I believe that modelling leadership as a co-learner is the most effective way to build capacity in ourselves, our students, teachers and administrators. Recently, I have been working with others to refine a pedagogy that is gaining recognition as a very practical form of instructional coaching and collaboration known as the 4C’s – Co-planning, Co-teaching, Co-debriefing and Co-Reflection. A very authentic context for learning is constructed when groups of learners own a teaching and learning experience together. Present research interests include the integration of critical inquiry processes into student programming and how to deliver curriculum in a way that is engaging, relevant and integrated.
