About Beatriz Hernandez

With a diverse background spanning Journalism, Translation, Asian Studies, Cultural Studies, and Global Development, I have always brought enthusiastic vibes of experience and expertise to my roles. My journey began with a solid foundation in Journalism in Madrid, where I refined my skills through internships at the news agency EFE and the newspaper El Mundo. After some months, I started working for the international agency Cordon Press - first as a member of the Editorial Team, then as Chief Editor, a position I held for six years, excelling at being both a leader and a doer.My career then took me to Lisbon, where I pursued a Postgraduate degree. During this time, I not only shared my knowledge as a Spanish instructor in various organisations but also contributed as a freelance translator for well known entities like the European Court of Justice and SGS.Driven by a passion for cultural exploration, I delved into Asian Studies, earning a Master's degree from the Catholic University of Portugal in 2010. Building upon this, I completed my Ph.D. in Cultural Studies in 2015, where I also became an integral part of the Center for Communication and Culture Studies, further expanding my academic horizons.Seeking to understand global dynamics more comprehensively, I enrolled in a Postgraduate program in Global Development at Trinity College in 2017. This led me to embark on an internship project at the Los Grobo Foundation in Argentina, where I gained invaluable insights into international development practices.Back in Lisbon, I continued to put into practice the notion I learned during my years studying, travelling, and researching: to thrive on diversify issues, to engage on broaden experiences, to delve on skills, and ways of looking at the world. In a “liquid modernity” - to use Bauman’s terminology - everything is fluid and flexible; institutions have become increasingly de-territorialized, and they are marked by adaptability, creativity and imagination. I deeply believe that those three variables summarise much of my personality, of my bliss - my "Ikigai", of what inspires me and guides me as a Team Player who, at the end of the day, measures one relevant and personal OKR: the percentage of passion put in the work to create valuable work with impact in at least one person in the society.Summarising, my mission is to diligently focus on every decision and action to get all ready and in place- Plan B and C too, just in case - for my whole Team, so that they can 100% use efficiently the only commodity that nowadays we can't buy or expand: time.
