About Bede Busby
I am a motivated and passionate scientist with over 15 years of laboratory experience, including 4.5 years of international postdoctoral research. I am experienced in bacterial and fungal microbiology, molecular genetics and systems biology. I am up to date in modern experimental systems including high-throughput molecular genetics, systems biology, method development and proficient in a number of molecular techniques, such as CRISPR-cas9 gene editing. Currently I lead the bacteriology and aquatic animal disease team for the Ministry for Primary Industries at the Animal Health Lab in Wellington which operates at PC2 and PC3+. My role consists of overseeing diagnostic testing and I hold KTP/RLP status for tests within the scope of our ISO 17025 accreditation. In addition, I am also leading a number of research projects which have a direct impact on biosecurity NZ.
