About Behishta Anwar

Born in Afghanistan, this former child refugee has become an enthusiastic Adelaide local. Behishta is driven to helping others by being a fierce advocate for equal rights, education for girls in Afghanistan and combating homelessness in Australia. She is the Vice President of Rotaract Club of Adelaide Peace and committee member for Mosaic Adelaide. With her own schooling cruelly thwarted by the Taliban’s 1996 takeover of Afghanistan, Behishta is passionate about girl’s education. She actively advocates for this through social media, helping to raise funds to teach Afghan girls. Along with other female teachers Behishta volunteers her time to teach girls in Afghanistan through online portals. Behishta’s dream has always been to help both her country of birth and country of residence - what better way than through fashion! With Behman Collection her aim is to bring classic Afghan stylings to modern Australian fashion whilst helping the less fortunate in Afghanistan. Behman clothes are made in Afghanistan by Afghan women. By employing women with limited financial means we support them and their families. Behman aims to donates 25% of its profit every month to those in need in Afghanistan. Helping others starts on home ground so Behishta is drawing from her lived experience in her role as Bi-Cultural Case Worker at Australian Refugee Association Inc. to help smooth the resettlement of newly arrived refugees.
