About Belem Osorio
As a first-generation student, I am deeply committed to bridging the gap between underserved communities and equal access to healthcare and education. My personal journey with nutrition has inspired me to pursue research and a career centered on exploring the neurobiological and social factors that affect eating disorders and other types of addictions. My experience as a UCSF stem cell research intern exposed me to data analysis for patients with diabetes, strengthening my understanding of this disease. Getting to research the nutritional disparities Latinx communities in the Bay Area encounter as a public health intern at UC Berkeley solidified my passion for combating food insecurity and providing equity across healthcare. My personal story and experiences have motivated me to find new opportunities to assist underrepresented communities and further study the interdisciplinary field of neuroscience and nutrition.
