About Ben Burslem

I am a Charted Engineer (IMechE) with a broad background in design, manufacturing and R&D.I have recently joined Hyde Group Limited, bringing experience in complex aero-engine test rig design and manufacture, as well as awareness of advanced manufacturing technologies.At the ATI, I used my knowledge of the aerospace industry and relevant technologies to support companies across the UK and to develop national aerospace technology strategy. I sat in the Structures, Manufacturing and Materials team, and also provided input to propulsion related technologies. I had a particular focus on PM-HIP technology.AT ITP Aero, I worked in the Chief Design Engineer role on numerous aero-engine projects, leading cross-functional design teams to deliver highly complex test rigs and developmental rotating engine assemblies. Such projects included Rolls-Royce full-annular combustion test rigs and the XWB 97CI/84EP high-pressure spool 'TITAN' telemetry units. I also supported GE9X fan blade-off testing and numerous other developmental projects.At Intelligent Energy, I conducted research on evaporatively cooled high-power hydrogen fuel cell systems, registering 2 patents and 1 SAE paper in under 18 months as an undergraduate intern. One of these patents, featuring the ‘high-temperature heat rejection system’ utilising 2nd stage compression, underpins the IE-FLIGHT product the company offers today to aerospace customers. I also completed my Masters' thesis with IE and Airbus designing a conceptual A320 fuel cell engine, with a simplified physical working model build-STEM ambassador since 2016 and have presented to hundreds of young people over the years promoting engineering as a career choice, including many times at the National Space Centre.I am also a former American Football player, representing Great Britain from 2016-19 and coaching many players over 4 years at Loughborough University after I graduated.
