About Ben King

I am the Pearl Mussel Officer at the Freshwater Biological Association. I manage the rearing systems in order to ensure the success of pearl mussel breeding and the wider Freshwater Pearl Mussel Ark Project. Previously, I was the Pool Frog Recovery Project Officer at Amphibian and Reptile Conservation. Among many successes of this project, I am proudest to have led the head-starting of this reintroduced, nationally critically endangered species, releasing hundreds of tadpoles to reinforce both reintroduction sites. Furthermore, I graduated from the University of Plymouth, linked with Paignton Zoo, with a MSc Zoo Conservation Biology with Distinction. I wish to manage animal species threatened from extinction in genetically, demographically and behaviourally healthy ex-situ populations with the ability and ambition to reintroduce individuals to protect and restore ecosystems and their services society depends on.
