About Ben Martin

I have always had a keen desire to understand how mechanical systems work and I have been tinkering my entire life. During high school I took as many technical trades classes as possible, fixed and rebuilt cars, atv's, bikes and whatever else at home, while still pursuing full academic studies. My enthusiasm towards all things mechanical has steadily grown since creating a solid, intuitive foundation with which I am building my engineering career upon. I couple this early life hands on experience with a strong work ethic, continuous education through school and the workplace, and a passion for producing top quality work. I have also been blessed with very diverse work experience leading to a broad skill set spanning the disciplines of mechanical engineering for mining and other heavy industry, mineral processing for base and precious metals, and mechanical equipment design and fabrication in manufacturing and commercial environments. In the mechanical engineering spectrum, I have designed and assessed countless pumping, piping, HVAC, and industrial ventilation systems; procured and integrated complex equipment packages into existing facilities; and developed all the supporting documentation and calculations required to ensure compliance and that quality engineering standards are maintained. In the mineral processing industry, I have worked on pilot plants that process 8 kg an hour of material, up to auditing production plants that process over tons per hour in flotation and grinding circuits. From a hands-on perspective, I’ve built anything from simple frames and equipment enclosures, equipment testing platforms complete with data acquisition, to the design, construction and commissioning of a research laboratory. In September 2013, I returned to school to build upon my technologist diploma by pursuing an engineering degree at UBC in Kelowna. My previous education and work experience has allowed me to apply a sense of real-world application to the topics I am studying, thus allowing me to better understand the theoretical fundamentals and how they may apply in the field. With this degree I have further diversified my technical capabilities, building on my past work experiences while providing additional foundation to continue supporting and developing my career.
