Ben Powell, CFA, ASA, is a Vice President at AltaView in its Salt Lake City office. He has extensive experience advising clients on a variety of valuation matters, specializing in the fintech, healthcare, and agriculture industries. These businesses have ranged from small, closely held investment companies to multi-billion-dollar organizations. Ben’s practice areas include valuations for estate and gift tax planning and compliance, management/corporate succession planning, financial reporting, litigation support, and transaction advisory. In addition, Ben has expertise in the following areas: ​ -Privately owned companies across a wide range of industries -Pass-through entities (S Corp, LLC, LP)-Discounts for lack of control and lack of marketability -Second-level (or tiered) discounts -Private equity portfolio valuations under ASC 820 -Deferred compensation valuations under IRC 409A and ASC 718 -Purchase Price Allocation (PPA) valuations under ASC 805 -Goodwill impairment and intangible asset impairment testing under ASC 350 and ASC 360, respectively -Valuation of complex contingent consideration using Monte Carlo simulation Prior to joining AltaView, Ben was a Manager at Moss Adams LLP in the business valuation group.
