About Ben Reeb

My overarching goal as an educator and social scientist is to integrate academic research with real-world application. Success in this endeavor has required a unique skillset and excellent record of and clinical and social welfare service, which has proved invaluable for informing and directing my program of research. I have also taken numerous graduate-level clinical courses. I have found this work to not only personally satisfying, but also practical in terms of informing and directing my research questions. The objective of my research is understanding and breaking cycles through which psychopathology, abuse, and trauma are conveyed from one generation to the next. I have also conducted and published research on differential genetic susceptibility, social mobility in the U.S, and racial-ethnic disparities in mental illness. I have a strong publication record with considerable experience in grant-writing, data analysis, and inspiring the next generation of social scientists and practitioners through interactive teaching at the university level. My teaching is directed by my commitment to assisting vulnerable families and children through multidisciplinary, collaborative research aimed at identifying risk and protective factors, understanding mechanisms through which they operate, and ultimately, using this knowledge to design effective preventive intervention and community outreach strategies.
