I'm Ben Schmidt, a dynamic professional with a diverse background spanning the high-pressure world of the United States Navy as a Nuclear Machinist Mate to pioneering in the field of Fabrication and Automation. My journey has been one of continuous learning and leadership, from supervising engine room operations on a Ballistic Missile Submarine to mastering cutting-edge laser and automation technologies. During my 8-year tenure in the Navy, I developed an unparalleled ability to thrive in challenging environments, maintaining the highest standards of precision and efficiency. This experience laid the foundation for my role at D&H Industries, where I've specialized in laser operations and automation, programming both AP & T and ABB robots, and successfully managing projects like the integration of a 5-axis Trumpf laser. Recently, I embarked on an entrepreneurial venture, working to develop an aquaponic farm with the aim of supplying fresh, organic produce to my community. This innovative project combines my passion for sustainability with my technical and leadership skills, presenting new challenges in strategic planning, market analysis, and business management. Through this venture, I'm not only addressing the need for healthy, locally-grown food but also enriching my understanding of sustainable agriculture technologies and community engagement, preparing me for greater challenges ahead. I'm currently enhancing my expertise through an MS in Engineering Management from MSOE, aiming to bridge my technical skills with strategic business acumen. Set to complete at the end of 2024, this program is equipping me with the tools to drive process improvement, achieve organizational goals, and lead with vision. As a Navy veteran, my core values include discipline, integrity, and a relentless work ethic.
