About Ben Segall

My name is Ben Segall, a PHD Candidate at Stevens Institute of Technology with an expected graduation in May of 2026. As an innovative PHD researcher in hypersonic flow diagnostics, turbulent boundary layers, and advanced measurement techniques for high speed aerodynamics,m y work bridges experimental and computational fluid dynamics, with deep experience designing, building, and operating the Mach 6 shock tunnel at Stevens and creating custom instrumentation for pressure and velocity measurements. My research at Stevens institute of Technology has focused on- Developing and applying advanced velocimetry methods, such as acetone tagging, for precise measurements of streamwise velocity profiles and turbulence fluctuations in hypersonic boundary layers- Conducting and analyzing experiments on shock-wave/boundary-layer interactions, ionizing gas behavior, and hollow cylinder geometries- Designing robust fluid systems and mounting hardware using SolidWorks, and leveraging MATLAB and specialized CFD tools (SDToolbox, Cantera, Eilmer) for engineering simulations and data collection/analysis.
