Background

About Ben Sloan

Hi there! My name is Ben, and I’m a Biomedical Engineering PhD student at Columbia University in the McIlvain VIBES Lab. My research involves a specialized MRI technique called magnetic resonance elastography, which I use to noninvasively study how the brain’s mechanical properties relate to structure-function relationships and disease diagnosis and treatment. My work focuses on developing our lab’s preclinical imaging pipeline and informing clinical procedures through finite element modeling. My interest in research began at Saint Louis University, where I co-founded a radiation-focused research club. This work led to an internship with the Department of Defense, where I gained hands-on experience in particle physics and ionizing radiation. Afterward, I was elected team lead at SLU and developed and executed a transistor-level Total Ionizing Dose testing protocol.
