About Ben West

I’m a software and platform engineer focused on building reliable, ergonomic infrastructure that people can depend on — especially in environments where failure has real human cost.Over the last 15+ years, I’ve worked across cloud platforms, Kubernetes-based systems, developer tooling, and decentralized/open systems, spanning both large-scale commercial environments and globally adopted open-source projects.I’ve built and operated infrastructure at:Alexa Internet (Amazon) during the early cloud eraMeraki (Cisco), working on cloud-managed networking at enterprise scaleDexcom, contributing to device-critical reliability features (including the G7 “grace period”)Nightscout / OpenAPS, where I co-founded and helped scale open, user-owned health data platforms used worldwideT1Pal, bringing open-source diabetes infrastructure into sustainable commercial operationToday, my work centers on platform engineering and developer productivity:Kubernetes-native architectures and multi-tenant systemsEnvironment-aware tooling and reproducible workflowsCLI tools and controllers that reduce cognitive load and operational toilDecentralized and user-owned systems with strong safety and auditability propertiesI care deeply about usability at the infrastructure layer — making complex systems legible, safe, and empowering for the humans who build and rely on them. I’m especially motivated by roles where platform quality directly enables faster, safer innovation for others.Open-source, collaboration, and long-term stewardship are core to how I work.
