Although circadian regulation is altered in several pathologies, whether pharmacological targeting of circadian regulators may present novel avenues for therapeutic applications remains to be deeper explored. My group is involved in the study of the links between clock factors and human pathologies, and on the identification and evaluation of novel molecules with “clock modulator” activity. We recently reported that inhibition of the circadian regulator REV-ERB enhances autophagy-dependent cancer cell death. In addition, we identified a novel compound with a dual inhibitory activity toward both REV-ERB and autophagy, which provides a scaffold for the discovery of new anticancer agents.
