About Beniam Tefferi

Beniam Tefferi is the Acting Manager in the Central Review Unit, Development Engineering, Development Review. As a manager, he provides the technical, financial, and administrative oversight needed to effectively and successfully manage a team of professionals to provide engineering review and approval of the municipal engineering component of planning applications. Beniam was formerly a Senior Engineer in the Development & Growth Transformation Project Office unit, Water Infrastructure Management section, Toronto Water division at the City of Toronto. He worked in his field for over 9 years and has acquired a wide range of skills in various areas, including sanitary sewer capacity analysis, storm sewer capacity analysis, stormwater management, site grading, and site servicing. Beniam started his career as a Materials Engineer-In-Training at Thurber Engineering Ltd. before moving on to work as a Designer (EIT) in Land Development at WSP | Group for 2 and a half year. He then transitioned to an Engineer - Land Development position at the same company, where he honed his skills in stormwater management pond design, site grading design, site servicing design, and water distribution modelling. After nearly 4 years at WSP | Group, Beniam moved on to the City of Toronto in Development Review, where he worked for over 4 and a half years. He was recently promoted to the position of Senior Engineer and continues to demonstrate his expertise in his field. From March to June 2023, Beniam was a Senior Engineer in the Approval & Partnerships unit in the Water Infrastructure Management (WIM) section of Toronto Water. Beniam is now in the Development & Growth Transformation Project Office Unit of WIM. In addition to his technical skills, Beniam has also shown a commitment to addressing Anti-Black Racism, taking on the role as Chair of Engineering & Construction Services' Confronting Anti-Black Racism (CABR) working group, a cause that is important to him. Overall, Beniam's extensive experience and expertise make him a valuable asset in the development engineering industry.
