About Benjamin Chong

As an FHEA & MIET lecturer with power industry experience, I specialize in analysing and designing power converters and their control systems. I simulate these systems using Matlab and Simulink, and create practical prototypes for students. I deliver research-based education in renewable energy and power electronics for modern energy systems, and have supervised numerous undergraduate and postgraduate projects over the past decade. I'm part of the Smart Energy Systems research group of ICaPNet at the University of Leeds. I maintain regular contact with my former students, many of whom are now successful engineers, entrepreneurs, and economists. I've supervised several summer internships aimed at co-creating learning materials and providing opportunities for students to raise their skills profile. I actively participate in academic activities within student societies and continue to do so as an academic member. I've delivered Summer Schools, outreach activities, and guest lectures, and have been a judge and advisor for student-organised competitions. I'm part of PRiSME and TALENT at the University of Leeds, where I'm involved in the scholarship of teaching and learning, and scholarly teaching. I'm a member of the University's Assessment Strategy Expert Group, where I've co-developed SharePoint for assessment guidance and co-delivered workshop sessions on assessments. I've been voted several times as the Best Lecturer by students at the Electronic & Electrical Engineering of the University of Leeds, most recently in July 2023. I've also been nominated for the LUU Partnership Awards, most recently in 2023 for the Inspirational Teaching/Supervisor award. I'm committed to shaping the future through education and providing my students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed.
