About Benjamin Corkum

Ben is a well-rounded professional engineer, currently working as a Design Engineer for the Halifax Regional Municipality’s Public Works business unit. In this role, Ben is responsible for the design, project management, and tendering of various municipal capital projects. Before his time at HRM, Ben was employed in the natural gas distribution industry for Eastward Energy. In this role, Ben was responsible for a variety of tasks such as system planning via hydraulic modelling/analyses of the pipeline network, the management of engineering approval requests, procurement of construction materials, and the material tracking/traceability program. He was also responsible for performing construction field audits, assisting with project planning and design, and assisting with environmental emissions reporting. Prior to working at Eastward Energy, Ben worked as a Strategic Development Trainee for EMCO Corporation, where he was a part of a four-phase developmental program geared towards accelerating him into a technical sales role in the plumbing/heating industry. This gave Ben valuable fast-paced customer service experience and allowed him to forge new relationships with vendors, distributors, and customers. During his studies at Dalhousie University, Ben has also worked several co-op terms for Pratt & Whitney Canada, Environment and Climate Change Canada, and Halifax Water. Outside of work, Ben lives an active lifestyle and enjoys long distance running, weightlifting, and golfing. He was a member of the Acadia Axemen Varsity Swim team for 5 years, and acted as the Men's Team Captain for the 2014/2015 academic year. During those years he achieved the status of CIS Academic All-Canadian. He is a proud Maritimer who enjoys craft beer, live music, and the ocean. Ben’s goals are to gain valuable engineering/design experience, work towards an MBA, and eventually pursue a management position.
