Background

About Benjamin Diego

I am a recent graduate of Stanford University with degrees in English and History with a concentration in the history of art. My undergraduate research primarily focused on unpacking the meanings of medieval religious texts, images, and architectural spaces. I have received a number of awards and grants for my work—most recently, for my senior honors thesis analyzing the function of architectural metaphor in early medieval gospel-books. The thesis received the Golden Award and Kennedy Thesis Prize for the best undergraduate thesis in the Humanities 2016. Studying the art of the Middle Ages has given me a broader understanding of art and literature in general—of the way that a single word or image can contain a multiplicity of meanings. It has also required that I respond to complexity and ambiguity—in images, in research projects, in life in general—with positivity and creativity. I plan on continuing my work on medieval art in graduate school, but for now, am actively seeking career opportunities in arts administration, research, and editing/publishing in the New York area.
