About Benjamin Ferko
I am a 5th year PhD student studying Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania with Prof. Karen Winey. I have focused my studies on polymers from the viewpoint of both chemical and materials engineering, so I am excited to find a position as an industrial research scientist working with polymers upon completion of my degree at Penn in Spring 2026. My research focuses on polymer physics with an emphasis on polymer ionic conductivity, dynamics, and structure. I have collaborated with synthetic chemists and simulation experts in the field to approach these problems with diverse perspectives. Additionally, I have designed and built two custom instrument accessories to advance my research through careful control of experimental conditions. I have also been the manager of a university X-ray scattering facility. Besides maintaining several pieces of equipment, I have worked with over 40 users at the facility to help collect and analyze their data.
