About Benjamin Kachel

I am am Molecular Biotechnologist with a broad experience in the field of genetic and metabolic engineering of various microorganisms. Previously, I worked with cyanobacteria/microalgae with the goal to produce bulk and fine chemicals from (sun)light and CO2: Check out my publication: DOI: 10.1016/j.ymben.2020.09.010. In my postdoctoral work I lead a small team of super-motivated researchers trying to revolutionize the feed and food industry using chemolithoautotrophic bacteria to produce PROTEIN from CO2. Our goal is to replace fishmeal and agricultural products in animal feed with our sustainable solution, thus having a positive impact on some of the most pressing problems of our time: overfishing, de-forestation and climate change. We currently hold two patents. I am also passionate about medical biotech and human health: During my master studies, I developed RNAi-based methods to improve safety and efficiency of AAV-mediated viral gene therapy. Currently, I am expanding my knowledge in GxP, GMP, Project- and Process-Management, preparing for an entry into the pharmaceutical industry. My goal is to use my broad biotech expertise, my out-of-the-box thinking, my accuracy and goal-oriented attitude to have a real impact on human health.
