About Benjamin Kasting
I am an analytical chemist with extensive experience in the preparation and characterization of organic glasses prepared by physical vapor deposition. My work in the Ediger Group at the University of Wisconsin - Madison includes the characterization of glass state dynamics in vapor-deposited glasses and the first investigation of vapor-deposited glasses of a known polyamorphic system. Outside of experimental work, I was also able to use my design skills to build instrumentation enabling new experiments at Argonne National Lab. I developed programming skills by writing the software to control instrumentation and analyze data in Python. Outside of work, my hobbies mostly involve tinkering with interests including carpentry, 3d modeling and visual effects in Blender, electronics, and recreational programming.
