About Benjamin Kelty

For as long as I can remember, I have been defined by two things: student and athlete. My academic pursuits have been interwoven with a passion for sport and competition. From little league baseball to high school basketball and finally college soccer, I developed as an athlete at the same time as I developed as an academic and as a person. My experience as an athlete transformed me. I became a leader. I learned how to overcome small and large obstacles, to help my teammates, and to let my teammates help me. And this was only the beginning. Time management, balance(physically and metaphorically), communication, and self-motivation came as a package deal. And yet, this is not what makes me stand out. It is my passion for academics that truly drives me. In fact, I chose a high school that did not have athletics because I knew it would challenge me academically(this changed during my junior year, in part because of my and a group of friends' insistence on playing basketball everyday at lunch). My academic drive pushed me to pursue a math and physics double major, and, when this was not enough, to pursue as many computer science courses as my schedule would allow. It is this academic experience that I am most excited to continue as I transition away from being a student and into the work force. Now backed by a cross-disciplinary pursuit of quantitative fields, a strong liberal arts education, and the mentality of an athlete, it is with this same drive that I am eager to create real-world data-driven solutions to complex problems.
