About Benjamin Ly

For as long as I can remember, I have always had a desire to help others. Paired with my interest in anatomy and physiology, becoming a Rehabilitation Therapy Assistant was a natural fit. As a future Rehabilitation Therapy Assistant, I believe that everyone deserves an opportunity to live a functional life. Through rehabilitation, we can maximize the physical, mental, and social abilities of our clients. I will strive earnestly to promote a safe and effective environment where my clients can maximize their efforts in achieving a functional life. Working through SAIT’s Rehabilitation Therapy Assistant diploma program, I have completed a total of three clinical placements at the Foothills Medical Centre (FMC), Three Hills Health Centre, and in the Integrated Supportive and Facility Living program. I have had the opportunity to meet and work with many role models in my field, and I am grateful to my SAIT instructors and clinical placement preceptors for mentoring me on the various facets of being a competent professional. They have shown me that compassion, respect, and confidence are at the forefront of becoming an effective healthcare provider. As a student, I approached my studies with a positive attitude and a dedicated work ethic. Driven to seek excellence and passionate about challenging myself to become my best, I will continue to carry this mindset with me as I enter the workforce. Combined with the values I learned from my role models, I am confident I will make a difference working in rehabilitation through consistent effort, enthusiasm, and self-reflection. Striving to be the best that I can be, provides my clients with their greatest chance at maximizing their potential. After completing my first placement at FMC, I was convinced I would spend the next 5 to 10 years working there as a Therapy Assistant. FMC embodies Alberta Health Services’ vision of Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Excellence, and Safety, and aligns with my values and professional philosophies. As a prospective graduate, I understand that I have many things to learn and experience, however, with the right attitude and perspective, I am excited and ready to begin the next chapter in my career in a Casual Therapy Assistant position for FMC.
