About Benjamin Mattson

I earned my Bachelors degree in Psychology at Alverno College in May of 2011, during which time I completed two internships: A research intern position at Aurora Sinai's Center for Urban Population Health, and another with The Parenting Network's RELATE Program, where my team and I taught adolescents about healthy relationships and safe sex. I have worked in the field of social services since 2008, with time spent in AODA, mental health and HIV case management, group home in-home services, medical appointment transportation, doctor-to-patient/case manager liaison to dictate important medical information, client advocacy, housing acquisition and inspection, and referral to community resources. I have honed clerical skills to accompany this focus, as well as the ability to work with Word and Excel, and to revise, create or self-determine daily tasks in a creative and ever-changing environment. I am driven by working on teams to create good outcomes and improve efficiency. My career ambitions moving forward are to focus on housing, especially the where it intersects with physical and mental health. Housing is healthcare- and that is especially true for individuals who are at heightened risk when homeless due to health conditions, sexuality, gender presentation, or disability. I hold a specific interest in holistic mental/physical health for transgender individuals, and I believe that non-discriminatory housing and employment are essential cornerstones to creating a proper lifestyle balance that promotes overall health.
