About Benjamin Mills

I grew up in Ashby-da-la-Zouch, UK before moving to Liverpool to pursue a BSc with Honors in Geology. Through my professor, I gained contacts in New Zealand and eventually moved there to become a logging Geologist for Baker Hughes. After a year working with various companies, I decided to apply for a transfer to the Baker Hughes Perth division as there were more opportunities there at a time when New Zealand drilling was starting to slow down. I underwent training to become a Data Engineer and enter the next phase of my career progression. I worked for 3 years offshore, up and down the North West Shelf and Timor Sea, drilling in such places as Scott Reef and the Browse Basin. I then took up the position of SLS Coordinator in the Perth office and supervised rigs for Apache and Hess. This enabled me to see the marketing side of the job as well as looking after offshore crews and liaising with clients on well requirements and future ventures. With the contacts I had made offshore, I was offered a position as a Coal-Seam Gas Geologist with a foot in the door to my desired career. I worked for two years with Santos in the Roma CSG fields. There were some challenging projects undertaken such as in seam Coal Geo-Steering for which I was the senior Geologist on site, this eventually led me back offshore into exploration and development work as a Petroleum Geologist. My experience in the oil industry has enabled me to work both solely and within a team. I have adapted to working long hours for extended periods of time. I have been exposed to a range of different drilling environments such as offshore deep and shallow water, onshore volcanics and High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT) exploration. My main goal is to be subjected to many different geological environments to better further my knowledge and my career. In an industry based on one’s reputation, it has always been my goal to go above and beyond what is required of me.
