Background
About Benjamin Nickols
I’m a helper. I help people. If someone needs help you reach out. Lifting people up so they can be the best version of themselves comes naturally to me. When I was a freshman in college I felt like I was alone. Didn’t feel like I had anyone in my corner rooting for me. Being in an arts major feels like constant competition with everyone around you. Will others understand what I’m doing? Will others like what I’m doing? Am I doing this correctly? Do I look good doing this? Do I feel prepared for this? Am I good enough? These were questions that would constantly filter through my mind. It was exhausting! So my sophomore year, I decided we needed some change. I created a safe environment for new and old students. I created an audition workshop for new students and helped them with their material. I made myself an available resource for anyone needing help. By my senior year I was elected president of our student lead experimental theatre organization and continued to foster a safe environment for all students. I was an active recruiter for our theatre department. Traveling to several high school theatre conferences to recruit students for our program. I was even rewarded scholarships for my help to the department. Since graduating, I have taken that mentality with me everywhere I go. My first two jobs in Seattle quickly became training positions. Now I am working as a receptionist at Big Fish games where helping people is my job. Helping customers, guests, and employees is everyday work for me and comes naturally. I also work as a freelance director, actor and acting coach in Seattle. I love working in this community and meeting lots of people with every project I do. Although I love working as a receptionist, I know it’s not my final step. I’m not 100% sure what the next step is, but I’m okay with the unknown. I like to see what life throws at me:)
