About Benjamin Reingold

I help clients in science-driven and creative industries protect and enforce their intellectual property. With a focus on IP litigation and the legal impacts of AI, I advise on complex disputes and emerging risks across a range of evolving technologies. I practice in all areas of intellectual property law, with an emphasis on patent litigation for clients in pharmaceutical, oil and gas and other science-based industries. I have significant experience litigating cases under the Patented Medicines (Notice of Compliance) Regulations, as well as complex patent disputes with concurrent litigation in Canada and abroad. With a growing focus on the intersection of IP, artificial intelligence and communications, I have a strong understanding of how emerging technologies are shaping the legal needs of creative industries, including in advertising, public relations and marketing agencies. I am well positioned to provide guidance on developments in trusted communications and the use of AI. My advice also extends to potential litigation risks associated with AI. I also represent multinational clients in breach of confidence, copyright and industrial design disputes, and have acted on leading cases regarding damages quantification and the jurisdiction of the Federal Court. In law school, I was on the Dean’s List and won the Fox Cup as a member of the best team at the 2012 Harold G. Fox Intellectual Property Moot. I also was a quarterfinalist at the Oxford International IP Moot. Prior to attending law school, I earned degrees in biology and cell biology, with some of my graduate research published in the Journal of Endocrinology. I am a member of the Advocates' Society and the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada.
