About Benjamin Sahn

I am an attending physician at Hofstra/Northwell faculty, and I hold a faculty appointment at The Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research. Since joining the Hofstra/Northwell faculty, I have held a full-time clinical attending appointment and have shaped my career focus around the care of youth with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). As a director of our Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center, I have a leadership role overseeing a program which provides care to children and young adults with IBD. I am actively engaged in multiple prospective clinical trials and additional research studies. My individual research focus is within the field of bioelectronic medicine, using transcutaneous vagus nerve stimulation (tVNS) to treat patients with IBD. At The Feinstein Institutes, I completed and published the findings of a first-in-human, proof of concept clinical trial that prospectively examined the effect of tVNS on children with IBD. I was a grant recipient for the Hofstra/Northwell Mentored Research Grant for Early Career Investigators, which provided funding for this clinical trial. Our positive findings were presented at national meetings and led to a new prospective, randomized double-blind clinical trial enrolling children and adults with active ulcerative colitis.
