Background

About Benjamin Sidney

As the Academic Affairs Coordinator at CEA CAPA Education Abroad, my primary focus is to support students in their academic journey while studying abroad, ensuring they have a smooth and enriching experience in Florence, Italy. I believe that study abroad is an opportunity to gain more than just academic knowledge—it’s about discovering new perspectives, enhancing global awareness, and cultivating a deeper understanding of the world around us. In my role, I serve as a bridge between students, faculty, and academic partners, assisting with course selection, academic advising, and ensuring that each student's academic goals align with the opportunities available abroad. My goal is to help students make the most of their time abroad by providing guidance on how to balance academics with cultural exploration, while ensuring that they stay on track to meet their educational objectives. With a background in international education, including my previous role at the New York Film Academy in Florence, I have developed a deep understanding of both the academic and personal aspects of studying abroad. My experience spans teaching, student services, and curriculum development, which has helped me create a supportive environment where students can thrive academically and personally. As part of my daily responsibilities, I also provide support to our faculty members in a variety of academic matters. Whether it's assisting with questions regarding their syllabus, helping with the coordination of academic schedules, or addressing specific needs related to the curriculum, I am dedicated to ensuring that both professors and students have the resources they need to thrive. I work closely with faculty to address logistical needs, such as organizing field trips to museums, historical sites, and other cultural venues that complement the academic experience. These off-site learning experiences are an integral part of the study abroad program, and I help facilitate smooth and effective planning to make sure that the students' learning is enriched by hands-on, immersive experiences. As I continue my own academic journey—currently pursuing a degree in history at the University of Florence—I am reminded of the transformative power of education and the importance of lifelong learning. I believe that academic growth, paired with the immersive experience of studying abroad, allows students to cultivate essential skills like critical thinking, adaptability, and global citizenship—skills that are vital in our interconnected world.
