Background
About Benjamin Utterback
I help cities reimagine how mobility technology can serve the public good. Passport’s platform unifies parking, enforcement, and payment systems for hundreds of municipalities, including Boston, Denver, Chicago, Toronto, Los Angeles, and Miami, creating more efficient and connected communities. In 2025, our work with the City of Boston was profiled by Harvard University’s Data-Smart City Solutions as a national model for modular procurement and civic/government technology modernization. I focus on translating complex civic and operational needs into scalable technical solutions that advance modern mobility, digital enforcement, and data-driven decision-making. Before joining Passport, I worked at Marriott International’s global headquarters, leading key IT initiatives during the Starwood acquisition and the launch of Marriott’s All-Inclusive platform. These enterprise-scale projects helped align global capability systems, manage integration risk, and prepare the company for large-scale digital transformation. That experience taught me that successful technology change depends as much on clarity and communication as it does on architecture and process. Throughout my career, I have worked at the intersection of technology, strategy, and human systems, connecting engineering, product, and business teams to align purpose with execution. My background in IT management, product strategy, and digital growth gives me a holistic view of how people and systems connect, and how thoughtful design and data can simplify complexity. I also served as President of the Washington D.C. region for Beta Gamma Sigma, the international business honor society recognizing the top 10 percent of students from AACSB-accredited programs. A Magna Cum Laude graduate of Florida International University’s Honors College, I earned my MBA in Business Management. When I am not immersed in technology or city systems, I write poetry, work on my book, and am slowly getting better at chess. I am happiest outdoors with my family, hiking the trails with our dog near Iowa City.
