About Benjamin York

I began my teaching career in 2010 when I was hired as the sole upper grade (3-8) teacher at a small rural school in Northern California. I was in charge of everything here, from writing the curriculum to ordering the toilet paper. I was a voting member of the school board, and managed the school’s website for the last few years of my time there. During my tenure the enrollment of the school grew by 50 percent, as the community recognized that our standard of education was higher than the status quo provided in the local public schools. From 2015-2016 my wife and I built a camper van and drove it to Panama over the course of a year. Most recently I have been the 8th grade team lead at an EL Charter School in Grass Valley, California. In this position I plan and manage curriculum and instruction delivery to the 8th grade team. I also plan and execute five weeks of fieldwork for the students, spread throughout the year. I also teach all subjects in 8th grade. I have a bachelors degree in geography with a minor in photojournalism, a masters degree in education with a focus on science curriculum development, a multiple subject teaching credential, a single subject credential in geography, and an preliminary administration credential.
