About Benji C.

I am a UK-based Optometrist with a background in specialist clinical practice. While my focus has always been on providing the best possible patient care here in the UK, my experiences recently led me to explore Optometry in other parts of the world. My journey to explore this took me from specialist UK hospital clinics in glaucoma and medical retina to being involved in educational initiatives in Belize, Uganda, and India. These experiences cemented my belief that the most powerful force for change is education, empowering local professionals to build lasting solutions within their own communities. This realisation led me into my current role as a Senior University Practitioner at the University of Huddersfield. In this role, I am responsible for contributing to clinical and academic training to the next generation of optometrists, helping them bridge the gap between complex theory and real-world clinical practice. Alongside my teaching, I actively pursue my passion for global public eye health through several channels. I currently serve as an Associate Researcher with the Global Optometry Public Health Alliance (GOPHA) and contribute to the educational mission of the Global Ophthalmic Institute (GOI). A cross-cutting interest in all my work is the application of generative AI to enhance creativity and productivity in both education and clinical practice. I am always keen to connect with fellow professionals, researchers, and organisations who share a passion for-Global Public Eye Health -Sustainable & Humanitarian Eye Care -Clinical Education & Curriculum Development Outside of my clinical and research work, I'm curious about exploring the world through different lenses. I channel this into a creative side project, a podcast called 'Our World in Focus,' where I delve into diverse perspectives. My commitment to humanitarian service is deeply informed by my faith, which is the driving force behind my desire to support communities. When I'm not at work, you can usually find me learning chess, reading, rock climbing, tinkering about with generative AI, or watching Liverpool FC.
