From 1991 through 2013 I worked my way from an hourly position with Sam’s Club to General Manager. In 14 years as a GM, I managed two different facilities. I turned a struggling club in Shreveport, LA around by focusing on improvement to morale. By instilling pride and improving relationships in the workplace I was able to improve store standards and profitability. For the last 11 years of my career with Sam’s I ran the Sugar Land, TX club, which I opened in 2002. Over that time we grew sales to over $125 million, becoming a $100 million/year club in 2010. I was also able to develop several direct reports for promotions, with 3 of them becoming General Managers, 1 becoming a Fresh District Manager, and another becoming a store manager in a different company. In summary, during my 22 year career my clubs contributed close to $1 billion in sales and in excess of $35 million in profit, they were excellent places to work for all employees, and people that wanted to advance were developed. In 2015 I became the business manager for a small private school in Sugar Land, TX. In 1 1/2 years as business manager, along with our accounting department, we were able to uncover a flaw in operations that threatened to cause the school to close. With the support of the Board of Directors, we developed a plan to operate the school and put steps in place to ensure its financial health. In 2017 I became Athletic Director of the school. Over the past 5 1/2 years, by focusing on the hiring and training of our coaching staff, I’ve been able to increase student participation in athletics to almost 80% and greatly improve our level of competition. In the organization which governs our competition we have gone from the 28th place school to being in the top 5 in overall athletics.
