About Benoit Kohl

Benoît Kohl is a full professor at the law faculty of the Université de Liège, where he heads a department dealing with contract law and construction law. Benoît Kohl is also an attorney at the Bar of Brussels. He concentrates on contract law, real estate law and construction law in general. Besides negotiating agreements, drawing up legal advices and structuring operations in these matters, he has also successfully dealt with various disputes before judicial courts and in arbitrational procedures. He is regularly appointed as arbitrator in national and international arbitral proceedings. In June 2020, he was elected as President of CEPANI, the Belgian Arbitration Institution. From 2012 to 2016, he also served as Co-President of the Cepani 40, the Belgian "below 40" arbitration institution. He also represents the Belgian government in the UNCITRAL working group II on international arbitration and conciliation. Benoît Kohl is a visiting professor at the law facutly of the Université de Paris II (Panthéon Assas). He gives lectures on European construction law. A specialist in real estate and construction law, Benoît Kohl held the position of president of the European Society of Construction Law (in 2011-2012) and chaired the Belgian Construction Law Association until 2020. Benoît Kohl has published various articles, notably regarding construction law, contract law and arbitration. He is also a member of the editorial staff of several Belgian legal journals and has won three scientific awards, including the BVS Award (Professional association of the real estate sector) and the European Parliament Jean Rey Award for his dissertation “Droit de la construction et de la promotion en Europe” (Bruylant, 2008).
