About Bernd Ehle

I am a partner at LALIVE in Geneva, specialising in international arbitration with over 20 years of experience. I have acted as counsel and arbitrator in more than 100 high-stakes disputes conducted under various arbitration rules (e.g. ICC, Swiss Arbitration Centre, ICSID, DIS, LCIA, VIAC, NAI, KCAB, DIA, and UNCITRAL) and governed by civil and common law. My experience includes appearing before, and serving on, dispute adjudication boards. I advise and represent clients in complex disputes, with a focus on large-scale construction and infrastructure projects, intricate joint venture agreements, M&A transactions and sales and distribution contracts. I have extensive experience across various industries, including energy (oil & gas, solar, wind, hydro), telecommunications, life sciences, automotive, aviation, and shipping. Additionally, I represent clients in arbitration-related court proceedings, especially regarding the setting aside of arbitral awards before the Swiss Federal Supreme Court. For several years, I have been recognized as a leading practitioner by Chambers, Legal 500, and Who’s Who in Arbitration and Construction. Beyond my casework, I regularly speak at international conferences and publish on topics related to arbitration and construction law, actively contributing to industry dialogue. Prior to joining LALIVE in 2003, I practiced litigation and commercial law at Graf von Westphalen in Freiburg i.Br, Germany I completed my legal studies at the Universities of Freiburg i.Br, Heidelberg, and Geneva, passing the First and Second State Examinations in 1996 and 1998, respectively. I also hold an LL.M. from Northwestern University School of Law, Chicago and a Ph.D. from the University of Heidelberg (2001).
