About Bernhard Dold

I am President and Director of SUMIRCO (Sustainable Mining Research & Consultancy. EIRL), San Pedro de la Paz, Chile. I have been active in Academia the last 20 years in teaching and research at the Lulea University of Technology (LTU), Sweden as Chair Professor, Universidad de Chile, Santiago de Chile (Professor Titular), Universidad de Concepcion, Chile (DAAD-Guest Professor), Universidad Internacional de Andalusia (UNIA), Spain, University of Lausanne and Geneva, Switzerland. I received my Diploma degree in geology (Dipl. Geol.) from the University of Bremen, Germany (1995). My Ph.D. I did at the University of Geneva, Switzerland and a Post-Doc at the University of Waterloo, Canada In 2005 I received my Habilitation (Privat-Docent) on “Acid Mine Drainage: Formation, Control, and Prevention”, at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland. I am specialized in biogeochemical and hydrogeological processes controlling element cycles in ground- and surface waters, soils, industrial waste environments, bioleaching operations, and ore formation. The mineralogy and geochemistry with applications in characterization, control, prevention, and remediation of environmental pollution, with special focus on acid rock drainage in mine waste and ore deposit environments and its application for a more sustainable mining operation is the main focus of my research and consulting activities. Clients include CODELCO, Anglo American, BHP Billiton, Southern Peru Copper Corporation, Mineria Activa among others, as well government agencies in Peru, Chile, and Colombia.
