About Bernhard Scully

Bernhard Scully is currently the Associate Professor of Horn at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, and Artistic Director of The Kendall Betts Horn Camp. He was previously held the positions of horn in the Canadian Brass and principal horn of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. He has collaborated with the Chicago Symphony, San Francisco Symphony, guest principal horn with the Cleveland Orchestra and Pittsburgh Symphony, Minnesota Orchestra, and many others.The Canadian Brass tours the world over, regularly records for international labels, and annually performs in front of nearly every major orchestra in North America such as the New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra. As an educator, Bernhard has been on the faculty of the Music Academy of the West, the Eastman School of Music, Brevard Music Festival, the Raphael Mendez Brass Institute as a member of the Summit Brass, the Chautauqua Music Festival, and the North Country Chamber Players. He has been a featured artist and has given master classes at many International Horn Society Events, and at schools of music around the world. In 2009, Bernhard was the first classical brass applicant to win a McKnight Fellowship For Performing Artists. He is featured in Hal Leonard Publishing Company's,"The G. Schirmer Horn Collection, Volumes 1-3", produced by Rick Walters. His solo album,"Dialogue En Francais, French Music For Horn and Piano", was featured on NPR's All Things Considered. On his most recent album,"Windows in Time", he joins forces with the Jupiter String Quartet and Rebecca Gitter from the Boston Symphony, featuring the premiere recording of Gunther Schuller's "Quintet for Horn and Strings (2009)", and Mozart's "Quintet K.407". Being a performer-teacher in music is my calling. I have been immersed in the world of music all my life and have loved every minute of it. I love teaching and feel a deep sense of commitment to share my love of music with others.
