About Bernie Rocha

I began my career as a Probation Officer in 1996 in Santa Cruz County. I was initially assigned to the Adult Division, serving as a supervision officer for a general supervision caseload. Between I was assigned to the High Risk Offender Gang caseload with the Watsonville Police Department. In September of I became employed with the Santa Clara County Probation Department. Between to 2011 I was assigned to the Juvenile Division. During this time I worked in the Central geographic unit, Gang Unit (2001-2006 & 2007-2010) and the Southeast & Northeast geographic units. Part of my duties in the Gang Unit was to supervise youth released from the Division of Juvenile Justice, a responsibility previously assigned to State parole agents. In 2010 i was certified as a gang expert for the County of Santa Clara. In 2011 I transferred to the Adult Division, becoming one of the first armed Probation Officers in the department, assigned to the AB 109 Unit. In 2013 I was assigned to the San Jose Police Department’s Covert Response Unit (CRU), a full-time Surveillance & Apprehension Team tasked with apprehending serious violent Felons. In addition to my Probation career, I have taught for both Cabrillo Community College and National University as an adjunct instructor. My areas of expertise are Juvenile Law, Gangs, Corrections and Public Administration.
