About Bert de Wilde

I have 27 years work experience in the Oil & Gas industry. In 1996 I graduated as Master in electronics engineering (Ghent, Belgium). Since then, I had ample of regional and global engineering positions (manufacturing support, maintenance, central engineering, mega growth projects) within the domain of automation and process control. Throughout my career l have taken a global interest point of view and worked in multicultural environments (Asia, Middle East, Europe, Americas). In 2010 I was lead Instrument Engineer during the construction of a large complex in Singapore (US$4bn+), in 2014 I had the role as Instrumentation Discipline Technology Lead for the Americas Region (North America + Canada), in 2015 lead design engineer for a large automation project (US$180M) in Saudi Arabia and currently I have taken the role of Process Control (Instrumentation, Applications, Systems, Process Analytics) Discipline Technology Lead for the EMEA region. Early 2019 I complemented this role with a Supervisory position for Online Control & Optimization (ACAP/DMC & RTO). Moving forward I will be focusing my efforts to Industrial Control Systems Cybersecurity as the Principal Cybersecurity Engineer for the Instrumentation, Electrical and Process Analytics space. The key focus areas I have been working on are safety, security, reliability, optimization, operations excellence and innovation. This is obviously not just achieved through the use of process automation technology. The development of people, maintaining the overall regional health of the proces control job family, creating experts and leaders of the future, is vital and most likely the best/fun part of my role. I am a strong believer and promotor of cross functional collaboration, diversity, openness and inclusion. Creating an environment where people feel safe to speak up, passionate to contribute, empowered to make the difference.
