Background
About Beth Anne Pratt
I am a social anthropologist with wide-ranging, cross-sectoral experience working on health and livelihoods issues both globally and in East and Southern Africa. In the health sector, I have focused primarily on issues involving access to technologies, services and financing, especially those connected to TB, malaria, nutrition, maternal and child health, and traditional, complementary and integrative medicine. I have also worked as a volunteer with an NGO focused on last-mile delivery of co-packaged ORS/Zinc for diarrhoea in children in Zambia, as well as with a corporate social responsibility project in Egypt. I have a PhD from Boston University, with my doctoral research focused on childhood and social, economic, and political change in Northern Tanzania, and a post-graduate diploma in health systems management from LSHTM. I bring to my work an interdisciplinary perspective and a strong capacity for synthesis, contextualization, and thick description. Specialties: I specialize in short- and medium-term contracts for both desk- and field-based global health research and analysis. This includes: Process Evaluations, Systems Assessments, Case Studies, Policy Analysis, Technical Briefings, Documentation, Access Strategies, Program Support, and Advocacy Briefs. Areas of expertise include: health systems strengthening, including governance and information systems; access to health services and technologies in LMICs; demand-side factors in health services implementation and utilization; innovative health financing and accountability mechanisms; public-private partnerships for health service and technology delivery; life course approach to health; multisectoral action for health; USG health, population, and development assistance, including PEPFAR COP processes and local transition/G2G. Topics of expertise include: TB; HIV/AIDS; SRMNCAH; nutrition; malaria; SBCC; EPI; Ebola response; COVID-19 response, traditional, complementary and integrative medicine (TCIM).
