About Beth Bohnert

Transferable Skills 1) Writing and Communications: I enjoy refining words and sculpting sentences to communicate ideas, to evoke a feeling, or to persuade. Having written a doctoral dissertation and taught the intricacies of writing and editing for years as a teaching assistant in the Dept. of English at U of T, I have developed an acuity for contouring content into a variety of formats to suit the desired audience. I currently use these skills to optimize knowledge mobilization for the FutureSkills research lab (FS). 2) Conceptualization and Creativity: I love conceptualizing new things or brainstorming ingenious solutions to existing problems. Examples include designing multiple professional websites (such as https://futureskillscanada.com and https://comparativeeducationpolicy.ca), composing the architecture of mass-enrollment online university courses, and formulating compelling topics of interest for conference panels. 3) Research and Analysis: I am a versatile and shrewd researcher with the ability to consume vast amounts of information and distill them into compelling insights. I conduct literature reviews, close reading analyses, and prospect research into partner organizations for FS. 4) Leadership and Management: I am adept at initiating projects and shepherding a team towards a shared goal by structuring and carrying out clear steps to accomplish our objectives. In addition to managing research assistants in FS projects, I also direct and organize the activities of numerous volunteer groups at TDSB. Values My doctoral research studied institutions created during the age of European imperialism (e.g, museums, public schools, banks, universities, zoos, etc.). As a result, I cannot “un-see” how those structures continue to perpetuate colonial, extractive ways of living in our world. In response I’ve made a conscious commitment to do what I can to de-colonize our structures and mindsets. For instance, I am currently working with a coalition of East York public schools to integrate Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) into the school curriculum via Indigenous speakers and partnerships.
