Being employed by We R H.O.P.E. is an enriching experience. This nonprofit organization partners with schools to provide one-on-one mental health coaching to children who need it, regardless of the family's income. I work at an elementary school and meet with referred students 5 days/week, for 20 minutes/day. These students are referred to me based on observed signs of withdrawal, crying easily, frustration/anger issues and anxiety. After an initial intake screening by my LICSW supervisor, we work one-on-one on goal-setting, anxiety reduction, recognizing and expressing feelings, breaking down the anger cycle, self-control, self-soothing, mental health literacy, sharing with a trusted adult and self-care/self esteem practices. I typically have an approx. 8 student caseload and the program lasts 60-90 days with a huge success rate! I love seeing how fast these kiddos learn and employ the new techniques. It's truly a life-changer for the student, teacher, caregiver(s) and friends, teaching skills the kiddos will use throughout their lifetimes.
