About Beth John

Hi, I’m Beth, and I’m based in North Wales. I currently work for a brilliant charity on Anglesey called Digartref, in which I work with young people who are, or have been affected by, homeless(ness). My project is single-staffed, so for most of my service users I represent consistency and- I would like to think- dependability and reliability. Securing my service users with temporary accommodation and supporting them to maintain and manage a tenancy can be high pressure and stress, but incredibly rewarding. Aside from eight months working for Women’s Aid in a refuge, my background is in hospitality, and during the COVID lockdowns when work was scarce I wanted to revisit my experience working with vulnerable people. When I’m not at my main job, which sees me working all over Anglesey in a number of locations, you’ll find me playing live music across all sorts of different events- weddings, corporate functions, bar entertainment etc. I’ve been playing live music since I was 15 years old, and I’m very comfortable in front of a crowd. As well as my personal gigs, I also run open mic nights in Bangor on a weekly basis, which allow anyone to get up and have a go on the microphone. I try to get involved with the live music scene in Bangor as much as I can; preserving the scene is extremely important to me. Travelling is my deepest passion of all. I spent nearly three years travelling across New Zealand and Australia in my early 20s, working in bars and busking to get by. I’ll be heading back down under in October 2022 (one-way flight has been booked!) and I look forward to connecting with new faces. My core skills lie in thinking creatively, being practical and getting up and about, using my hands, taking initiative, and I like to think I’m an easy-to-to-be-around person who invites people to open up and be themselves around. In my free time I like being in the great outdoors, and am happiest parking up in my van somewhere for the night, wild swimming, walking, exploring. I like staying fit and healthy, and go to the gym regularly.
