About Beth King

Prior to my two and half years of work as an experiential educator/facilitator at State of Connecticut's Wilderness School, my social work experience extends to therapeutic mentoring as well as delivering preventative and early interventional psychosocial services for at-risk inner-city youth. I have worked with adolescents in the school, home, and community settings, focusing on the complex effects of poverty, substance use, and HIV/AIDS on urban youth and families. I have also worked extensively in a residential treatment facility for Deaf youth with behavioral, mental, and physical challenges utilizing my fluent, native skills in American Sign Language. In my practice, I incorporate a strengths-based approach, experiential education strategies, and adventure-based counseling to meet the clients where they are at. I challenge them so that they may feel confident in stepping outside their comfort zone as well as feel empowered to reach their potential. The pandemic brought on by Covid-19 has made it difficult to continue the adventure programming and teamwork facilitation that I had been doing at the Wilderness School. Moving forward during this time, my hope is to find meaningful employment within the social services field where I can contribute my interpersonal skills, positive energy, and dedication to quality client service.
