Background

About Beth Sternheimer

Beth is a documentary film producer, writer, and researcher for documentaries and museum media projects. Her independent film work includes serving as co-producer for THE CALLING, a four-hour PBS series that broadcast nationally on Independent Lens. Created by Chicago’s Kindling Group, THE CALLING tells the stories of seven seminary students of different faiths as they train to become the next generation of religious leaders. Beth was producer and archival researcher for the public television documentary REFUGE: STORIES OF THE SELFHELP HOME, about a resourceful community that over generations has brought together more than elderly Jewish refugees and Holocaust survivors under one roof, in Chicago’s Selfhelp Home. Beth was the Associate Producer for SECRECY and for TRACES OF THE TRADE, both films that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, and was nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Research for her work on Traces of the Trade. Beth’s museum experience includes creating linear and interactive exhibit media – from theater programs to large scale projection-mapped installations to multi-user interactive tables. Her most recent projects have been for the National World War II Museum in New Orleans, Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin, and the new American Writers Museum, which opened in Chicago in May 2017. In Washington DC, her work can be seen at the International Spy Museum, Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, US Holocaust Memorial Museum, and the National Archives, among others. Beth has taught documentary filmmaking and archival research at Chicago Filmmakers and as part of the Massachusetts College of Art and Design Continuing Education program. She has a BA from Oberlin College and an MA from UMass-Boston.
