Epigenetic and Translational Research in Neuropsychiatric Disorders My current research program seeks to identify and characterize biochemical, genetic and epigenetic biomarkers of neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative diseases, including bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and Huntington’s disease. These studies utilize a variety of human biospecimens, including post-mortem brain tissue, whole blood, saliva and serum, with techniques ranging from immunoassays to DNA methylation studies. My research projects are highly collaborative and include neurologists, neuroscientists, psychologist and psychiatrists from UCI, UCSD and the Scripps Research Institute, as well as international sites, such as the University of Melbourne and the University of British Columbia. Overall, the goals of my discovery and translational research studies are to improve the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of patients with these devastating disorders.
