About Beth Williamson

I am a proud social historian with 2 history degrees happily working in the museums and heritage sector. I really enjoy interacting with visitors from all over the world, telling them about the artefacts on display at the museum and more generally about Manchester and surrounding local areas to enhance their experience. I am hoping to advance my career to be more behind the scenes in museums and heritage, ideally as a collections or archival assistant. As well as my current experience and academic background in social, political and public history, I have extensive customer service experience, having worked in retail, a pharmacy and hospitality. I believe this coupled with my passion for history will serve me very well in my future progression in the sector. I’m also a lover of the arts, particularly music, and am eager to be involved in cultural activities as well as the heritage sector. My proudest achievement to date is achieving a first on my MA History dissertation on protest songs against the Vietnam War, written and released between 1968-1971, using the unconventional historical sources of song lyrics and newspaper articles to analyse societal meaning embedded within both lyrics and performances. I am still actively researching this to further my own personal knowledge on the subject.
