About Bethany MacCarter

I am a lifelong learner on a journey to secure a full-time position as a data analyst/researcher.Currently, I contribute to Montana State University's Center for American Indian and Rural Health Equity (CAIRHE) as a part-time research associate and data science intern with the Billings Clinic. In this role, I conduct queries, generate tables, and perform analyses in the Cerner Real World Database for an NIH-funded pilot project. Driven to enhance my data analyst skills, I recently enrolled in the Data Analytics Accelerator Bootcamp. Alongside my ongoing data science internship, I've applied Excel, Tableau, and SQL to real-world projects and eagerly anticipate further learning opportunities to enrich my skill set.This past summer, I participated in NASA's DEVELOP program, collaborating with a dynamic team of researchers. Together, we applied remote sensing, GIS, data analysis, and creative communication skills to assess the intersection of social vulnerabilities in the San Joaquin Valley with trends in air pollution.In 2022, I completed my M.S. in Land Resources and Environmental Science with Montana State University, a program that unexpectedly sparked my passion for data analysis. Here I was first introduced to and independently leveraged R to conduct a detailed human health risk assessment of PM2.5 exposure in Montana. My background also includes over 14 years as a high school science educator in Chicago, Shanghai, and California. These experiences have equipped me with transferable skills essential for success in any field, such as relationship building, collaboration, communication, content creation, improvisation, creative problem-solving, leadership, increased empathy, and compassion.Message me if you'd like to connect!
